Young Stars Shine at Third Annual Cloch Cup Football Tournament

Cloch Housing Association (Cloch) was delighted to once again partner with Active Schools for the third annual Cloch Cup Football Tournament, held on 29 May at Notre Dame High School. Primary school pupils from across Inverclyde took part in what has become an eagerly anticipated yearly event.

Following the success of the previous two tournaments, expectations were high — and the young players did not disappoint. An impressive 180 pupils took to the pitch, demonstrating fantastic teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the day. The level of talent on display was clear for all to see.

Community lies at the heart of everything we do at Cloch. Bringing children together from across Inverclyde to play, stay active, make new friends and enjoy themselves made the day truly special. It was a fantastic celebration of sport, fun and togetherness.

To ensure the event was accessible to all, Cloch funded transport for participating schools. Every child also received a medal, a Cloch football bag, a size 4 football and a pack of sweets — a small token to recognise their participation and achievement.

Cloch Director of Customer Services and Communities, Michael Monaghan, said: “The Cloch Cup continues to be a highlight of the local calendar, and we look forward to seeing more young stars shine in the years ahead. As a community-based organisation, Cloch is committed to making a positive and lasting difference across Inverclyde — supporting opportunities for young people, strengthening communities and helping to improve lives. Events like the Cloch Cup reflect our ongoing commitment to investing in the wellbeing, potential and future of the communities we serve.”

Councillor Jim Clocherty, Convener of Education and Communities, added: “This is the third year of the Cloch Cup, and it has been a great partnership between Active Schools and Cloch Housing Association. It is fantastic that so many boys and girls from 18 primary schools took part this year. Our thanks go to Cloch Housing Association for helping to fund transport, enabling schools from across Inverclyde to take part, and to Notre Dame High School for hosting the event again. Opportunities like this help to teach important skills such as teamwork, ambition and determination. Well done to everyone involved.”
